Thomas Clay

Thomas E. Clay is a partner and founding member of Clay Daniel Walton Adams, PLC. He practices in the areas of employment discrimination, sexual harassment cases and criminal defense. He has amassed numerous achievements in his almost 40 years of practice. Thomas received his bachelor’s degree from Centre College before graduating from University of Louisville Louis D. Brandeis School of Law.

  • 1993 – Counsel for Johnny Harper in Johnny Harper v. Housing Authority of Louisville – $815,000.00 jury verdict for discrimination on the basis of race. Settled on appeal for $925,000.00
  • March 1996 – Counsel for Jean Blocker in Blocker v. Potts – $100,000.00 jury verdict for sexual discrimination. Settled on appeal.
  • May 1996 – Counsel for former FBI Agent Jeanne James in settlement where FBI paid plaintiff $195,000.00 to settle claim of sexual discrimination.
  • July 1996 – Counsel for Mary Wilson in Wilson v. Philip Morris, Inc. – $2,000,000.00 jury verdict for sexual discrimination (retaliation and constructive discharge). After appeals Philip Morris paid in excess of 3.4 million.
  • Jan. 1997 – Counsel for Pattie and Joe Brown in Brown, et al. v. Alliant Health System, et al. – $1,700,000.00 jury verdict for retained laprotomy sponge.
  • May 1998 – Counsel for 34 salaried supervisors and 1 assistant plant manager at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant and Louisville Assembly Plant (racial discrimination). (All claims except one settled.)
  • August 1998 – Counsel for former Deputy U.S. Marshall Karen Davis in a case where Marshall Service paid $147,500.00 to settle sexual harassment claim.
  • Dec. 1998 – Counsel for ATF Special Agent Dee Davenport on a claim of discrimination on the basis of sex and race against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. (Settled.)
  • July 2000 – Counsel for Leslie Herzog and Sherry O’Keefe in a sexual discrimination/retaliation case against their employer Corp. of Engineers. Settled on appeal for $324,000.00.
  • July 2006 – Represented Donna Martin in a sexual/racial discrimination retaliation case against Jefferson County Metro Corrections – Jury Verdict $825,000.00.
  • June 2007 – Named top Attorney in Kentucky for Plaintiff Attorneys in Employment Law.
  • Oct. 2007 – Counsel for Debbie Epperson in an assault by ex-spouse. Jury Verdict $1,000,000.00.
  • Dec. 2007 – Counsel for Mike Duncan in a wrongful termination based upon political affiliation against former Governor Ernie Fletcher, et al. Settled for $370,000.00.
  • 2008 – Counsel for Natalie Wilkerson in Wilkerson v. City of Frankfort, et al, in a claim of Excessive Force, Wrongful Arrest and Malicious Prosecution – Settled.
  • Jan. 2008 – Counsel for David Owen in wrongful termination – disability – against State Department of Corrections – settled for $140,000.00.
  • Feb. 2008 – Counsel for Officer Kristina Hagan & Mike Smith in a hostile environment/retaliation claim against Louisville Metro Police Department. Settled for $150,000.00.
  • Feb. 2008 – Counsel for estate of Michael Newby in a civil rights claim (wrongful death) against Louisville Metro Police Department – Settled for $250,000.00.
  • Sept. 2009 – Counsel for Estate of Larry Noles in a civil rights claim (wrongful death) against Louisville Metro Police Department – Settled.
  • April 2010 – Counsel for Kendrick Houston in Houston v. Oxmoor Toyota – racial discrimination – Settled.
  • June 2011 – Counsel for Curtis Gordon in a civil case styled Gordon v. LMHA, (Louisville Metro Housing Authority) – $2.8 million jury verdict.
  • April 2012 – Counsel for Melissa Stevenson,et al., in a wrongful death case styled Melissa Stevenson, et al. v. Big Springs Assembly of God and Ronald Derek Coulter – $2,150,000.00 jury verdict.
